Before installing or updating
Back up important worlds before installing or updating. A store rating describes the store listing; it is not evidence that a separately hosted APK file is safe.
For the official Android purchase and update channel, use Google Play. Review the official release changelog when deciding whether to update.
- Export or copy the worlds you cannot replace.
- Confirm that the displayed version and file size are the ones you intended to download.
- Keep the existing installation until Android confirms that the update signature matches.
Manual Android installation
Android may ask you to allow installs from the browser or file manager that opened the APK. Grant that scoped permission only if you choose to continue, then remove it afterward.
Do not disable device security protections. If Android reports a signature mismatch, stop: uninstalling the existing app may also put locally stored worlds at risk.
- Open the downloaded APK from Android Downloads.
- If prompted, allow this source only for the app opening the file.
- Follow Android’s installer result and do not bypass a security warning.
Platform and compatibility
An APK is an Android package. It does not install Minecraft Java Edition and does not work on iOS or iPadOS.
Installation can fail because of Android version, device architecture, storage, an incomplete download, or a different signing certificate.
